The US Travel + Leisure Magazine has just voted Cape Grace the Best City Hotel in Africa and the Middle East.

We asked General Manager, Nigel Pace, what this award means to him and what it takes for Cape Grace to reach and maintain this pinnacle of achievement.

Q. What does this award mean to you?

I am absolutely delighted and extremely proud to be part of such a prestigious and well-known hotel. This award would have never been achieved without the hard work and the incredible service provided by every staff member at Cape Grace.

Q: What are the most important things that helped Cape Grace achieve this award?

• Service excellence: giving every one of our guests the utmost attention and care, and doing this in the most genuine and warm manner possible.
• Location: we are surrounded by water on three sides within the V&A Waterfront precinct, and are very close to all the major attractions: the City Centre, Table Mountain, Camps Bay etc.
• Décor: a strong sense of place is created by the hotel décor, with individual touches in each room, handcrafted features and stories of the Cape depicted on murals and fabric. The skill and creativity involved makes it absolutely unique.
• Reputation: Cape Grace has never deviated from its operating philosophy since opening and going into its 15^th year of operation, Cape Grace has become a recognisable and renowned name around the world synonymous with quality.

 Q. How do you maintain the standards?

Whilst reputation ensures long-lasting business, complacency is always a risk. Cape Grace does not rest on its laurels and will always continue to strive for ‘perfection’. All staff members are continuously reminded of the hotel’s operating standards, and most importantly, the hotel’s values. New staff members are recruited in line with the hotel’s rigorous procedures, in order to ensure that the culture fit is perfect. Innovation plays an important role in keeping our guests interested in a return stay at Cape Grace.

Q.  Where to from here?

Achieving the Number 1 spot is a huge achievement and one that we will continually strive for.  Exceeding guest expectations and delivering personal service excellence will remain the core pillars for Cape Grace going forward.
