“The creative industries make up an important part of our local economy. The value of an event such as World Design Capital not only exposes our creative design talents to the world, but in turn develops local industry into an asset for decades to come” Patricia de Lille Mayor of Cape Town
When Cape Town achieved the honour of being selected World Design Capital 2014(WDC 2014) our creative juices started flowing says Shaun McDermott, co-founder and owner of Charlotte Rhys. The award recognises design as a tool for social, cultural and economic development, giving the city an opportunity to showcase its achievements and aspirations through a yearlong programme of design led events and activities.
Cape Town will be a focal point for the international design community this year, with the spotlight on the creativity of our city, our country and our continent. “As a proudly South African company we were eager to celebrate this achievement, to contribute towards it and to bring the design capital vision to life one room at a time. And we could think of nowhere better to achieve our vision than the Cape Grace Hotel, situated at the V&A Waterfront, one of the prime focus areas of WDC 2014, and host to thousands of international tourists over the course of a year.”
It’s all about collaboration, challenges, dialogue, showcasing beautiful things and creative events, and shaping the future of society and the mind-set of both visitors to Cape Town and its citizens.
We took two of the four themes of World Design Capital Cape Town 2014:
We designed an eye catching container in the vibrant yellow primary branding colour of WDC 2014, and we join the Cape Grace in celebrating Cape Town and introducing its unique achievements to the world.
