KALAHARI DESERT DREAMS

You certainly feel like you are in a dream during a Kalahari Signature Treatment at the Spa at Cape Grace, as the scents of buchu, tsamma watermelon or wild honey are massaged into your skin.

Firstly, you get to choose one of four aromatic blends which will be used for your treatment; Khoi San blend, Dune blend, Tsamma or Wild Honey blend. During this the ethos behind the Kalahari range is explained; how the unparalleled eco-intelligence of the Khoi San has been used to inspire the herbal preparations and how the Kalahari ostrich bead bracelet given to you at the end of the massage provides income for marginalised San communities.

It’s rather heartening to hear that sustainable indigenous plants of the Kalahari are used and how the core of the Kalahari range is a deep commitment to the environment and the Khoi San people, who Carina Frank (founder of the Kalahari Spa Range) calls ‘the forgotten people’. Packaging is 100% recyclable and paper is from certified recycled sources and fair trade practices are instilled.

Knowing this somehow makes the hour-long Rolling Sands Massage (R780) a deeper experience. There’s also the 30-minute Khoi Khoi Escape (R480) deeply relaxing back and neck massage and the 45-minute Desert Glow Exfoliation (R350) giving you lustrously smooth skin. The 30-minute Sole Survival (R280) is a soothing foot ritual and the 30-minute Tsamma Hand Ritual (R280) richly nourishes your hands and nails.

Afterwards, when the ethnic bead bracelet is slipped quietly onto your wrist, you somehow feel a connection with the Kalahari that stays with you every time you notice it on your arm.
