We looked at New Year’s resolutions on 31 December 2010 – now we revisit the Cape Grace team and see who has indeed been resolute.
Nigel (General Manager): Eat, drink and celebrate often and sleep whenever possible.
Result: “The eating part has never been a problem and I have done very well so far. I have just celebrated my 40th birthday – huge celebrations. As far as sleep goes, this continues to be sparse – too much to do!”
Angela (HR Manager): I will stop wearing sparkly lotion and basking in the sun reading Twilight books pretending to be a vampire. I will give up chocolates, honestly…. until the 2nd January.
Result: “I am still as Twilight obsessed as ever and I broke the chocolate rule on the 1st of January (my son’s birthday – how could I not eat chocolate on that day)? I wish I had more discipline.”
Tanya (House Manager): The same as last year – Quit Chocolate!
Result: “Success! I still haven’t eaten chocolate yet this year. My secret is to avoid it completely. If I see it I walk the other way.”
Stretton (House Manager): I want to lose gain (yes gain!) about 10kgs!
Result: “With my high metabolism I have to eat regular meals and in-between meals as well and I have managed to gain about 2kgs in the last month. Hopefully in about 6 months, I will have reached my goal!”
Neil Ford (Signal Restaurant Manager): Find someone who will serve me breakfast in bed.
Result: “I’m still getting out of bed a little earlier each morning to make my own porridge (yuck). One of my staff said to me: ‘Oh for goodness sakes Neil……who would want to be involved with someone who works your hours?’ Charming!”
George (Bascule Manager): Convince my girlfriend that Louis Vuitton handbags and Louboutin shoes don’t exist and that it’s all in her mind………not sure what my chances are!
Result: I have diverted my girlfriend’s attention slightly from buying shoes to playing golf. It seems she has a natural swing and she loved every minute. So, we are spending a bit more time together on the course as opposed to the shopping mall (I did have to kit her out with the proper clothes and clubs though)!
