Cape Grace Hair Stylist, Sioux Le Grange, has her finger on the pulse when it comes to trends and treatments. Here are her hot summer tips for making sure your hair is in great shape for summer:
Q. What are the best ways to protect your hair from sun?
Sioux: Take some spray-in conditioner to the beach or pool to protect hair from seawater and chorine. We sell fantastic products at the spa at Cape Grace, such as Melu from the Italian Davines range.
A hair mask is more intense than a conditioner and restores the hair from the inside. Give your hair a weekly treatment like the Nounou nourishing repairing mask with aloe butter. In addition, use a serum as an after care product to nourish and protect. Wella has one with a UVA/UVB protector.
Q. How do we choose the right shampoo?
Sioux: You can’t believe the difference it makes using a specialist salon shampoo over a high-street brand. A professional product cleanses and nourishes without stripping or dehydrating the hair and is a lot more concentrated so lasts much longer. Blondes should try the Davines Alchemic Shampoo for natural and coloured hair with silver agent to stop the bleached yellow look.
Q. What are the secrets to making hair shine?
Sioux: Use Davines Shine Drops to add gloss to a Jessica Simpson-style Hollywood blow wave. Other hair serums will add gloss and so will an ice-cold rinse when washing off the conditioner.
Q. How can we protect hair from blow-drying and straightening?
Sioux: Many people heat their hair with curling tongs, GHDs and hair dryers. Use Melu shield spray on wet hair to reduce heat damage.
Q. How often should hair be washed?
Sioux: Ideally, you should wash hair a maximum of 3 times a week. When you have the chance, leave hair unwashed for a few days. If you need to wash it every day, use something like a leave in conditioner to protect it. Try leaving two front pieces of hair unconditioned and see how bleached it gets.
Q. What do you think of ‘two in one’ products?
Sioux: (grimace) Think about it, how can you wash and moisturise at the same time? A product can’t do two things at once – all it does is mess up the PH of your scalp.
