Cape Town is revelling in being one of the world’s favourite cities of 2014, and I know why. I recognised its qualities when I came on holiday from the UK 19 years ago and never left!
I was (and still am) a Lonely Planet traveller, clutching the relevant guide book and trusting in their advice. This year they list Cape Town at No.3 in the Top 10 List of Best Cities to visit in 2014, with the simple statement that, “There’s never a bad time to visit Cape Town.”
They note that 2014 is Cape Town’s year as World Design Capital and that you should expect “sculpture-lined green spaces, sustainable projects, and further regeneration of former industrial districts such as Woodstock and The Fringe, now the stamping ground of trendy shoppers and gourmands.”
Who else rates Cape Town? Well, to name just a few; Louis Vuitton gives Cape Town a big nod, with his first ever city guide to Cape Town. It’s part of their portfolio of only 15 distinguishing destinations that offer unique experiences. And the UK’s Telegraph Travel Awards named Cape Town as its 2013 Favourite City, while the Mother City was Winner of the World Tourism Awards Africa’s Leading Destination 2013.
The world is saying that Cape Town is definitely the place to be in 2014, and we have to agree with them. What do you love most about Cape Town?
