I never thought the New Year would come so soon, it feels like yesterday when I joined the marvelous team at Cape Grace in January 2013.  Looking back I can honestly say that there was one month in particular which felt like 31 days’ time warped into one minute.  The month of August … our fearless leader, General Manager, Sandy Pollard and I embarked on a month long sales mission to the USA during August.  It was one of the most rewarding, exhausting, humbling, emotional and airport induced allergy trip of my life. The most endearing emotion remained the one of pride … pride in my country and pride for Cape Grace, an icon in its own right – so full of life, heart and soul.

Other highlights included the acquisition of a brand new Sales & Marketing team – David Patrick as International Sales Manager, Sarita Kielblock as Regional Sales Manager and Karen Vollenhoven as Marketing and PR Manager.  These three have made tremendous inroads into the hearts of our clients, business partners and fellow colleagues. Their unequivocal commitment towards the growth of our sales and marketing objectives is a true reflection of their character and tenacity.

Then perhaps the most profound and saddest memory of 2013 is the laying to rest of our beloved Madiba, which on a global scale touched the hearts of so many whilst we celebrated and honored his life:

  • “Thus we shall free ourselves from the burden of yester-year; not to return there; but to move forward with the confidence of free men and women, committed to attain the best for ourselves and future generations.” – Nelson Rolilhalha Mandela – May you rest in peace

With each New Year we relish in the thought of putting together New Year’s resolutions with long lists of ambitious goals, only to have forgotten half of them by January 1st!  This list still play a role in the subconscious mind, so for me, on a personal note, instead of losing the 10kg’s proclaimed on December 31st, I only lost 3kg’s by year end, BUT in the process learned tons about fitness and nutrition. I also became appreciative of just simply having a healthy, working body.  My fittest, healthiest and thinnest friend recently had knee surgery; incapacitated for weeks, never before have I had so much appreciation for my tree trunk size but working legs … And you have to admit that losing 3kg’s is much better than gaining 3kg’s!  Go ahead and make those lists!

Embrace the New Year as yet another chance for us to get it right, because nothing of last year can be called a failure when the experience has given you a lesson to enlighten your life.   Thank you to all our long haul travellers that took the time to stop and plan a stay at Cape Grace during the course of 2013 so our staff could work their magic on enriching your memories of Cape Town.

Thank you to all our business partners, travel agents and tour operators for your loyalty and support.  And most of all thank you to our dedicated and passionate Cape Grace staff for always making us so proud.

May good luck kiss your heels and prosperity hunt you down!

Here’s to a prosperous 2014 filled with love, laughter and ambition!
