Always a feast for the senses, 2012’s Design Indaba Expo showcases only bespoke South African designs of the highest quality across all design disciplines such as: advertising, architecture, craft, décor, food, film, fashion, graphic design, interior design, jewellery, new media, publishing, product design, visual media and more!

It’s an all-in-one creative stop celebrating quintessentially South African work; no derivatives, no imports. This attracts an influential contingent of local and international buyers. It’s very interesting to see what takes their fancy as overseas buyers are in tune with forward trends (see our post on key trends for 2012) and here in SA we have a unique take on design, which finds an appreciative audience.

In a unique take on food, the Design Digest is guest edited by Dutch eating designer, Marije Vogelzang. Focussing on the creative thinking around eating, she has considered food from the perspectives of culture, nature, society, the senses, technology, science, psychology and materials. In this special edition, contemporary eating topics such as pop-up restaurants, food markets, foraging, farming, synthetic food, alternative materials, vegetarianism, future food, conviviality, sustainability, sovereignty and packaging are featured through the perspective of design.
