The holiday season is upon us and what better way than to spend it with your family and friends? Fun activities for children are a must during this time so take a look at our list below which even the young at heart will enjoy!

World of Birds:
The World of Birds Wildlife Sanctuary is an independent institution located in Hout Bay. Their main aim and mission is to bring ‘wildlife to the City and to bring people and animals intimately closer together, where respect for and understanding of nature is fostered and appreciation for God’s beautiful creation in its diversity is shared.’

The Monkey Jungle is open from 11:30 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 15:30

Monkey Town is a Wildlife Centre for monkeys and apes. They have more than 230 animals and 28 different exotic species at their premises and including the famous Chimp Sisters – Tammy, Ruby and Sunny. They also have koi ponds, an array of bird species and small antelope on the premises.
Location: Somerset West
What to do: Learners and kids are invited to attend a selection of programmes on offer. It includes a short presentation by Monkey Town staff followed by group activity and a guided field trip and tour through Monkey Town, all of which takes just over an hour. And if all that ‘monkeying around’ gives you an appetite, they have a restaurant available for lunch with the family as well as a play area.
Cost: R25.00 per child (one adult per every ten children may go in for free)
Butterfly world consists of a tropical garden within a 1000m² Green House and is one of the most beautiful attractions in the Cape Winelands – a must for all nature lovers!
Location: Located at the cross roads of the Paarl, Stellenbosch and Wellington Wine Routes, near the small Boland town of Klapmuts.
What to do/see: Tropical butterflies are raised on breeding farms in Costa Rica, Philippines, Malaysia and China. Pupae are flown to display parks where the butterflies will be born into their natural environment, a tropical garden.
Butterfly World imports 500-800 butterfly pupae per week all year round. They also have a beautiful outdoor garden area which hosts a meerkat enclosure and free range ducks as well as chickens. Children can feed these animals with packets of seeds which can be bought directly from the gift shop.

If you love the Beach:
Cape Town is known for its amazing beaches – Camps Bay, Clifton 1, 2, 3 and 4th are all amazing options for families with children. Life guards are on duty during the festive season so you can rest assured your little ones will be safe and sound during his/her time at the beach.
Simonstown’s Boulders Beach is another phenomenal option. Kids will enjoy swimming and splashing around in the shallow waters while watching the antics of the penguins.
Cape Grace also offers fun activities during the season, and throughout the year, with Gingerbread men decorating as well as African Story Time in the Library!
