The first Queen’s Plate winner in 1861 received a silver plate and 500 sovereigns courtesy of Queen Victoria and this year’s proud new owner of the highly esteemed trophy will trot away with a cool R1 million.
The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is THE Cape Town horse racing event of the year and is taking place this Saturday at Kenilworth Race Course (11am – 11pm). Dress to impress, strictly in blue and white and pick your winner from the parading thoroughbreds.
It’s not only the horses you’ll be investigating! Look out for the supreme car collection on display, courtesy of the Franschhoek Motor Museum, and a gallery of photos taken in the L’Ormarins Moments Competition. Naturally, wine from Anthonij Rupert’s L’Ormarins estate will be flowing freely.
