Let down your hair and slip into something ridiculously over-the-top for Africa’s biggest costume party. Mother City Queer Project (MCQP) is celebrating its 19th incarnation, with a ‘Fairytale Fantasy’.
Think back to a time when frogs turned into princes and a snow white was pure as snow, while her dwarves were up to mischief! The theme will ignite a sense of magic and no-one’s going to turn into a pumpkin at midnight!
The event has become so big it now takes over Cape Town Stadium with a line-up of music and entertainment to wow and bedazzle you. The party has been voted as one of the Top 3 Best Attractions of Cape Town. The Guide to Cape Town (2011) says, “This is without a doubt the biggest and most fabulous party of the year.”
Here are just a few of the performances you can look forward to:
- Lady Gaga and Britney Spears impersonator Derrick Barry is taking a break from his Las Vegas show “Divas Las Vegas”, to entertain his fans in Cape Town.
- London-based DJ Paul Heron has headlined most of Europe’s Pride Festivals and will heat up the MCQP floor (and in 2013 will be at Elton John’s birthday party)!
- Miss Lola Fine is the most photographed drag queen in South Africa. She’s a party planner to the rich and famous, socialite and drag cabaret artiste extraordinaire. Miss Lola Fine is back from a national tour, causing scandal and leaving a trail of sequins and feathers.
- ODIDIVA is an accomplished performing artist, an entertaining explosion who’s a singer, songwriter, poet, actor, dancer, M.C. and drag persona. ODIDIVA has performed nationally and in over 15 international cities across the world.
