Anyone who thinks Shakespeare’s plays are outdated is wrong. He may have written them in the 16th century, but his words are still pertinent. They are all about relationships and misunderstandings and the dynamic that hasn’t changed between men and women in four hundred years.
The Comedy of Errors is this year’s Shakespeare in the Park feature at Maynardville (10 January – 18 February) and like several of the Bard’s plays it uses mistaken identity to form the plot. A night out with Shakespeare at the Maynardville open-air theatre is an experience not to be forgotten and this year’s ‘Bard meets Bruce Lee’ performance in a Kung Fu cinema inspired set will no doubt thrill audience members of all ages.
If you haven’t tried Shakespeare before make this farce be your first and if you are one of the 20 000 patrons who relish the atmosphere at this much loved open-air theatre each year, then book your tickets now from Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat (021 421 7695).
