La Motte Wine & Dine at Cape Grace on 31st May

Share in the anecdotes and opinions of La Motte Cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche and 40 like-minded guests at our intimate Wine & Dine Series at Signal in Cape Grace on 31 May 2012. We never fail to be impressed with the superb La Motte wines and eco-credentials like being Certified Organic, attaining Championship status with the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI) and their ethical trade practices.  This Rupert family-owned farm is well worth a visit for so many reasons, like the Pierneef museum and art gallery, Pierneef à la Motte restaurant, tasting room, farm shop and classical music concerts. It’s no wonder it won Best Wine Tourism 2012

La Motte kicks off the series where vintage wines are paired with a 6-course dinner prepared by Executive Chef Malika van Reenen at R650 per person.

Here is a short Q&A to help you get to know Edmund Terblanche before the Wine & Dine at Signal Restaurant:

Q.    What has kept you at La Motte for so long?

A.     I like the culture in the work environment and the freedom to experiment. I get great opportunities to travel and taste. I got married while at La Motte, had two children at La Motte and my wife also works for La Motte. At this stage I cannot imagine anything else other than La Motte.

Q.     If you did any other job in the world what would it be?

A.      Play professional golf.

Q.     What can we expect from the 2012 harvest?

A.      Quality is good to very good. We had the unique opportunity to pick ripe grapes at low sugars. We have fullness, colour and soft tannins. I am personally very excited about this year.

Q.     What’s your favourite food and wine combination?

A.      Perlemoen mince with Sauternes

Q.     What’s the best wine you’ve had to date (other than your own)?

A.      A vertical tasting of Pichon Lalande together with the winemaker in his private blending room overlooking Chateau Latour in        Pauillac, Bordeaux, France.

Q.     Cork or screw cap?

A.      Screw cap.

Q.     Tell us something about you that not many people know.

A.     I obtained an Honours degree in Recreation Planning before I qualified as a winemaker.

Q.     Parting words of wisdom?

A.      You need to be a nice person to have a nice life.
