Robertson Valley isn’t as sleepy as we think as this town and surrounding areas seem to have more fun than most other wine regions, with festivals one after the other throughout the year. This time it’s the Wacky Wine Weekend (7-10 June) and you might just have time to pick up some last minute accommodation if you look on their website.
It’s not just about sampling wine, there’s a long list of entertaining possibilities including olive and cheese tasting, kids activities, live entertainment, boat cruises, who’s showing the rugby and even which venues are pet friendly! Just click on the category that suits you and the website shows which venues meet that particular need. With over 50 participating locations, you’ll never get to them all, so look at this webpage and plan your days.
Here’s a pre-event briefing to help you make the most of your Wacky Wine Weekend:
Where does it take place? The Wacky Wine Weekend is NOT a centralised festival; it takes place at participating wineries all across the valley.
What is the Passport? Purchase your R90 passport at the first port of call and this acts as registration to the weekend and takes the form of a stylish tasting glass with a strip around the foot of the glass. You also get “Friends of the Valley” vouchers in the programme, containing special offers valid for 6 months. There’s also a lucky draw for a weekend-break to the Robertson Wine Valley for you and 5 friends.
What if my glass breaks? Remove the strip at the foot of your glass and go to any passport point, hand in the strip and buy a new glass for R20.
What about late arrivals? Discounted glasses will be for sale at the Robertson Wine Valley office on Sunday 10 June after 10am.
What about drinking and driving? There is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy to drinking and driving so select a dedicated driver or use the Buddy Bus Service.
Have you been to the Wacky Wine Weekend? Tell us about it.
