Top 5 Fashion Trends

There’s been an array of fashion-forward events all over Cape Town recently, and nothing brings out the best dressed more than horse racing and polo.  Cape Town has more than its fair share of these; January’s L’Ormarins Queens Plate, the J&B Met in February with their Dress to Fly theme and tomorrow’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Masters (23 February) at the prestigious Val de Vie Wine and Polo Estate.

So how are you going to be right on trend with your outfit? What should you wear that shouts sophistication, class and style, yet still lets you sit elegantly and balance a glass of bubbly?  We don’t know, but we know someone who does! You’ll recognise Marilize de Clercq from Top Billing – the celebrity stylist, image consultant and personal shopper, plus the official stylist and personal shopper for Canal Walk’s Summer Competition.

Here are her Top 5 Fashion Trends that will keep you looking stylish and sizzling this summer:

Trend 1: Full floral: We haven’t seen the last of this print and it will be staying with us straight through autumn and winter. However, it’s bolder and even more dramatic and absolutely perfect for a statement at an event such as Veuve Clicquot Polo Masters 2013.

Trend 2: Black & White: Bold, striking and elegant. This is definitely one of the strongest looks for the season. This high contrasting combination looks amazing on brunettes with dark eyes and is the ultimate power-piece to stand out amongst the crowd.

Trend 3: Lace: We’re going to be seeing a lot of lace at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Masters tomorrow. It’s such a feminine trend and a firm favourite amongst attendees at such sophisticated and stylish events. It can either be used as a focal point with an added touch or as the main attraction. Lace is in full reign this fall!

Trend 4: Intricate design: The trusted peplum (short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress) is a firm favourite in this category offering sophistication and trend – with an array of designs showcased at the Queen’s Plate in January 2013.  I love the dramatic lines and accentuation of the female figure.

Trend 5: Heavy Metal: Bold, bright and full of sparkle – this is a very ‘out-there’ trend that should be worn with caution. Opt for statement pieces; I would suggest going for gold with this chic eye-catching trend.
