Top 5 Sunbathing Beaches of Cape Town

Cape Town is one of Trip Advisor Travelers’ Choice 2012 Beach Destination Winner’s, so we thought we’d remind you of Cape Town’s Top 5 Sunbathing beaches in readiness for a season of serious sunshine:

Camps Bay – if you want to be seen, go and strut your stuff on Camps Bay beach or just drool at the volleyball bodies!

Clifton – is just up the road from Camps Bay and more discreet but equally as trendy with 4 coves separated by boulders and yachts moored just offshore.

Fish Hoek – there’s no shame in showing your wrinkles at Fish Hoek beach, known for its retired population.  Regular sunbathers congregate at the corner and the wide flat beach is perfect for families and lone sunbathers who want someone to look after their stuff while they swim. There’s talk of a shark net going up.

You can only lie still for so long, so if you need something to watch while catching a tan, go to Muizenberg Beach and count the surfers! But avoid in a strong south-easter as you’ll get covered in sand.

A hidden and sheltered little beach with something cute to distract you is Water’s Edge Beach, just before the entrance to Boulders near Seaforth. Much of the cove is out of bounds to protect the African penguin colony, but they often swim up and waddle around this beach.
