We tapped into the knowledge of Cape Grace’s Spa Manager, Taryn Lilley, who invites you to try all her recommended treatments at the Spa at Cape Grace.
1. Focus on Feet
Pack away the boots and bring on the strappy sandals and wedges. This means our feet are on show so it’s time to deal with cracked heels, dry skin and neglected toenails. A deluxe pedicure with a paraffin wax dip is perfect to deeply nourish dry heels, leaving feet ready for display. The polish trend this summer is to experiment with pastels, metallic greys and sleek nude colours as well as light cool blues or bright yellows and purples to add a bit of excitement.
It’s time to wax! Your skin needs to be well moisturised and exfoliated to avoid ingrown hairs. Other alternatives are threading, sugaring and even permanent laser hair removal. There are many spa options available from strip wax to hot and cold wax. The results will always be smoother and longer lasting (and less painful) when visiting a professional.
3. Body Polish
If you find that your skin doesn’t seem to absorb all the moisturiser you apply, it’s probably because the pores are blocked by dead skin cells. A full body exfoliation or body polish will remove all this and re-mineralise your skin. It also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and keeps skin healthy which will also prevent break-outs. A professional spa exfoliation will also help prolong self-tan colour and prevent streaking.
The back of the hands are one of the first areas to show signs of aging with sun damage, pigmentation and loss of tone. Go into summer using an excellent SPF hand cream and regular spa manicures. While nail colours range from nude to pastels, there are also some shocking brights, but you can’t beat a classic French manicure.
You may like the healthy look a tan gives you, but your skin takes a hammering from the sun that may not be immediately visible. Always use sunscreen but I recommend kick starting with a good deep cleansing and hydrating spa facial. Also use intensive masques that focus on hydrating the skin once or twice a week. Boosters work best when layered underneath a moisturizer and toners even out skin porosity.
Bonus summer skin tip: Refresh with a revitalising toner spritz at your desk, in the car, at the gym or on the plane.
