World Environment Day: 5th June 2012

The 5th of June is the most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action and everyone can play their part, however small.

This day seeks to involve every person, everywhere. It’s a personal call for you to become an agent for change and how you do that is up to you; plant a tree or organise a collective tree planting, arrange a neighbourhood clean-up or just do it yourself, practise some guerrilla gardening on a patch of barren land, stop using plastic bags, walk to work, recycle more, use less water and save electricity, join an organised event. . . the possibilities are endless. Staff at Cape Grace will be encouraged to make their mark, as will guests and the day will serve to remind us to continue and expand the hotel’s environmental policies.

UNEP have a map on their website showing global World Environment Day eventstake a look to see what’s happening all over the world.

World Environment Day is a day for people to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook. We are all in it together and this quote by English clergyman & poet John Donne from circa 1630 speaks volumes:

No man is an Island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were; any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.”

John Donne, Meditation XVII
