Guided Dinner Experience in Cape Town

Terroir & Table Dinners at Cape Grace

Cape Town takes its name from a table: the mountain that watches over the city, the bay that opens beneath it. For more than three centuries, the Cape’s wines have sailed from this harbour to reach the world.

Cape Grace, A Fairmont Managed Hotel, is setting its own place at that table with Terroir & Table, a series of winemaker dinners held at Heirloom Restaurant. The premise is simple: one estate, one night. Executive Chef Wesli Jacobs composes a menu in conversation with the wines, while the featured winemaker takes the role of host rather than guest of honour, pouring, answering and telling the story behind every glass to a room where Cape Town’s most curious sit beside guests who have crossed oceans to join them.

Each evening begins with a welcome toast and a tour of the charming Bascule Cellar, followed by dinner at Cape Grace’s Heirloom Restaurant, where every course and wine pairing is built for the other. As a prelude to each dinner, a curated selection of the featured winemaker’s wines is poured for a limited time in the Library Lounge, with bottles available to purchase.

With only 30 seats available each month, Terroir & Table is an intimate gathering, an invitation to savour not only what’s in the glass, but the people, places and passions behind every pour.

A Journey Through the Cape’s Vineyards

Trizanne Signature Wines

Saturday, 29 August

On 29 August, Terroir & Table marks Women’s Month with Trizanne Signature Wines, co-hosted by Tristan Maske, in celebration of women in wine and the next generation of talent shaping the industry.

Winemaker Trizanne Barnard built her own label after years spent with some of the Cape’s most respected cellars, drawing her fruit from the cool, ocean-facing vineyards of Elim on the Cape South Coast and the warmer Swartland further north. The contrast between the two regions runs through her range, prized for its purity, restraint and a distinctly maritime freshness.

De Grendel

Saturday, 24 October

The season continues on 24 October with De Grendel, one of the Cape’s most distinguished wine estates, known for its award-winning portfolio and distinctive sense of place. The evening is hosted by celebrated winemaker and cellar master Charles Hopkins.

Set on the fynbos-covered slopes of the Tygerberg Hills, with Table Mountain visible across the bay, De Grendel is one of Cape Town’s oldest working farms and among the closest wine estates to the city itself. Charles Hopkins has led the cellar since it was first built in 2005, earning a reputation as one of South Africa’s most decorated winemakers and a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild. His flagship Rubaiyat, a Bordeaux-style red, remains one of the estate’s most celebrated wines.
