Bascule Bar

A slice of Cape Town’s social energy

The gentle chink of ice in whisky glasses mingles with the sounds and energy of Cape Town’s nightlife at Bascule Whisky, Wine and Cocktail Bar. Poised on the water’s edge of the V&A Waterfront yacht marina, Bascule’s breath-taking views are rivalled only by their enticing array of over 400 whiskies from around the globe, together with their exceptional selection of the Cape’s most sublime wines.

By day, Bascule is a vibrant destination from where to enjoy a cappuccino or light lunch. By night, the space is transformed into a lively bar, where connoisseurs and social butterflies gather to enjoy sundowners and lively music, savouring speciality drinks and tasty tapas dishes as the sun dips beneath the waters’ horizon.

While whisky is at the beating heart of Bascule Bar, the skilful bartenders have indeed mastered the art of mixology and shake up signature cocktails like the ‘Figment of Thyme’ – a muddle of lemon, fig jam, fresh thyme and Campari topped with a Singleton 12-year-old, and the ‘Spiced Apple Julep’ – blended with Maker’s Mark, spiced apple puree, fresh lime and mint. Local and foreign bubbles as well as white and red wines from around the Cape and beyond complete a list fit to satisfy even the most particular of tastes.

Top quality tipple deserves a tapas menu to match. Snack on South African traditional ‘biltong’ or marinated olives before moving onto freshly-shucked oysters, salt and pepper squid with sweet chilli and the smoked ostrich, served with balsamic-poached pear, goats cheese and pine nuts.

Bascule Lounge, with its warm wood interior, stylish furnishings and fireplace, hosts exclusive whisky tastings and can also be booked for private dinners. Be sure to let the team know should you wish to plan an event and they will gladly assist you in creating a memorable night from start to finish.
